How is BMI calculated?

BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². The standard categories are underweight (<18.5), normal (18.5–24.9), overweight (25–29.9) and obese (≥30).

Is BMI always accurate?

BMI is a general screening tool and doesn't account for muscle mass, age or body composition, so very muscular people may read as 'overweight'. It isn't a medical diagnosis.
